Desktop Systems
The Desktop Systems Specialization (Software) studies operating
systems, application use of databases, spreadsheets, advanced
document handling, Microsoft Office suite, and e-mail. Also, the
basics in hardware are covered.
The program provides opportunities for students to pursue a variety of
computer professional certifications including:
- A + Hardware Certification
- Security +
- Microsoft Office Specialist - Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint,
Outlook (MOS)
Career opportunities include:
- Help Desk Support
- Software Support Specialist
- Technical Writer
- IT Sales and/or Training
Successful graduates of the Cyber Security specialization will be able to
- identify, select, and employ the correct software applications to solve
business information problems, i.e. using a database for inventory rather
than word processing,
- apply mastery of software features and functions to aid users in
accomplishing business tasks,
- install new hardware and/or replacement components,
- investigate, identify and implement solutions for hardware and
software issues,
- install operating systems, drivers, applications, and updates,
- implement systems to identify, remove, and prevent viruses, Trojans,
worms, and spy ware using available software, and
- demonstrate suitable customer service and computer user support skills.
